Our Code of Ethics

Committed to clear rules for a quality service!

1. Objective

To define and have a consistent code of ethics among all in ELSSI.

2. Applicability

The code of ethics applies to the management, employees of ELSSI and sub–contracted personnel at all permanent and temporary work locations of ELSSI.

3. Code of Ethics

To uphold and advance the honor and dignity of the profession, and in keeping with high standards of ethical conduct I acknowledge that I will adhere to the Code of Ethics as laid out in this document.

4. Fundamental Principles

I will be honest and impartial, and will serve with devotion my employer, my clients, and the public.

  • Will strive to increase the competence and prestige of the profession.
  • Will use my knowledge and skills for the advancement of human welfare, and in promoting the safety and reliability of the services and products for public use.
  • Will earnestly endeavor to promote the ELSSI business.

5. Relations with the Public

  • Will do whatever I can to promote the reliability and safety of all products that come within my jurisdiction.
  • Will endeavor to extend public knowledge of the work of the company and its members that relates to the public welfare.
  • Will be dignified and modest in explaining my work and it’s merit.
  • Will preface any public statements that I may issue by clearly indicating on whose behalf they are made.

6. Relations with my Employers and Clients

  • Will act in professional matters as a faithful agent or trustee for each employer or client.
  • Will inform each client or employer of any business connections, interests, or affiliations which might influence my judgment or impair the equitable character of my services.
  • Will indicate to my employer or client the adverse consequences to be expected if my professional judgment is overruled.
  • Will not disclose information concerning the business affairs or technical processes of any present or former employer or client without his consent.
  • Will not accept compensation from more than one party for the same service without the consent of all parties involved.
  • If employed, I will engage in supplementary employment of consulting practice only with the consent of my employer.

7. Relations with Peers

  • Will take care that any credit for the work of others is given to those whom it is due.
  • Will endeavor to aid the professional development and advancement of those in my employment or under my supervision.
  • Will not compete unfairly with others; will extend my friendship and confidence to all associates and those with whom I have business relations.
  • ELSSI's quality manager or the assigned duty manager is responsible to follow up the sub contractor including periodic quality checks to be conducted on subcontractor at least once a year by Quality Auditor.

8. Assessment of Suppliers and subcontractors

Objective

  • Establish and maintain a list of suppliers that provide goods and services to ELSSI that conforms to the intended usage and requirement.
  • Ensure that suppliers / subcontractors that provide services and goods to ELSSI are evaluated periodically.
  • Ensure a proper selection of suppliers/ subcontractors is done before a new supplier is used.

General

New suppliers shall be selected, and existing suppliers shall be assessed, based on the following criteria:

  • Product price / service cost
  • Product quality / service quality
  • Delivery lead-time / service response time
  • Preferably certified by a recognized international quality certification body
  • All suppliers shall be evaluated periodically and their performance shall be continuously monitored through routine contacts
  • Existing suppliers shall be disqualified if they are frequently unable to meet the requirement outlined above

Sources for finding collectors

ELSSI’s collectors are:

  • Shipping People (surveyors, ex–captains, engineers, etc.)
  • Doctors
  • Nurses

Shipping people

They are recommended by our customers and ships' agents, while existing collectors are asked to recommend other people as collectors.

Doctors and/or nurses

We contact clinics in the area where we wish to open a collection site and interview doctors or nurses that would be interested in additional work/occupation.

Training

In addition to their required experience –profiled above– they must have adequate proficiency in English, reading and writing in order to fill out reliably the necessary COC forms. On ship collection training is done by ELSSI’s personnel or by other experienced ELSSI collectors. All collectors perform the collections as per ELSSI’s Code of Ethics.

Records

Supplier (i.e. courier service) evaluation records shall be maintained in accordance to ELSSI Quality System Records.
